Al-Iman Skills Academy Officially Launches: Investing in Skills, Opportunity and Empowerment

Al-Iman Foundation officially launches the Skills Academy in Johannesburg — practical training in sewing, electrical, plumbing and baking that turns skills into sustainable livelihoods.

Al-Iman Foundation

Today marks a significant milestone for Al-Iman Foundation as we officially launch the Al-Iman Skills Academy — a new initiative focused on equipping individuals with practical skills, knowledge and opportunities that can contribute towards sustainable livelihoods.

At Al-Iman, we believe that meaningful development goes beyond providing immediate assistance. While charity plays an important role in supporting communities, sustainable empowerment also requires us to create pathways for people to learn, develop, earn and build for the future.

The Al-Iman Skills Academy is an expression of that belief.

From Assistance to Empowerment

The launch of the Academy represents an important expansion of Al-Iman Foundation's commitment to skills development and economic empowerment.

Our initial programmes include Sewing & Garment Construction; Electrical Installation & Plumbing; and Home Economics — Basic Baking & Food Preparation.

These programmes have been developed with a practical focus, providing participants with opportunities to gain hands-on skills that can potentially be used for employment, entrepreneurship and income-generating activities.

Building More Than Skills

Skills development is about more than learning a trade. It is about creating possibility.

It is about giving individuals practical tools that can help them pursue opportunities, generate an income and become more economically independent. It is about building confidence, resilience and the ability to turn knowledge into meaningful action.

That is the kind of impact we want the Al-Iman Skills Academy to contribute towards.

A New Chapter for Al-Iman Foundation

The launch of the Academy also reflects the broader direction of Al-Iman Foundation. Our work continues across areas including education, orphan care, health, economic empowerment and community development. However, we recognise that sustainable community development requires more than addressing immediate needs.

It requires investment in people.

The Skills Academy forms part of this wider vision — creating opportunities that promote dignity, self-reliance and long-term empowerment.

Looking Ahead

Today is only the beginning. As the Academy grows, we hope to expand our programmes, strengthen partnerships, engage with industry and create further opportunities for participants to translate their skills into meaningful economic opportunities.

We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with corporates, funders, training partners, community organisations and other stakeholders who share our belief in investing in people and creating pathways to opportunity.

Because when we invest in people, we are not simply investing in a programme. We are investing in potential. And when potential is given the right opportunity, it can transform not only an individual's life, but their family and wider community.

From charity to empowerment. From opportunity to possibility. From skills to sustainable futures.

Today, 17 August 2026, we proudly open the doors of the Al-Iman Skills Academy. A new chapter begins.
